I stumbled on this quite by accident. Actually it was just something somebody mentioned on facebook, and I clicked a link because I was bored.
It's a podcast, and quite a popular one. For the newbies, a podcast is any radio-like show or recording by anyone that can downloaded from the internet and put in your ipod. The ipod isn't really necessary, because you can just listen to them on your computer, but that's how they got their name.
Radiolab is a radioshow/podcast provided by WNYC. Sometimes they do shorts, less than 15 minutes long, but their regular shows are around 1 hour long. They talk about random subjects. Sometimes everyday things, and sometimes bizarre things. There's a long list of episodes to choose from on their website. The hosts are really great, and they bring all sorts of interesting people to talk to. And, they have really cool sound effects and record often "on-location". I actually drop what I'm doing when I play it sometimes and just sit entranced, listening to the show. You know that "Dad" look we all have. The completely absorbed with mouth half open in a silly half smile that could erupt into either a chuckle or a loud exclamation. Yup. That's one that gets plastered on my face.
I can't really explain exactly what's so cool about it. I think it's one of those things you have to try to get it. It's way more awesome than the mugglecasts I used to listen to a couple of years ago.
Please please check it out. I know Dad for a fact will LOVE this. You can listen to it while you work, or in the car.
