Some Piano from Pride and Prejudice

I loved the soundtrack. So I got the sheet music.

It's really a different experience sometimes when you try to record yourself playing a piece. I can pinpoint a lot of mistakes that I didn't even know I had. Plus it gives an objective way to listen to what my playing really sounds like when I'm not worrying about my brain keeping up with my fingers and hitting the right notes. It's also how I realized I was supposed to be pressing the sustain pedal throughout.

Not to mention, when you record things, you want them to be, if not perfect then pretty darn close. And after spending four days of playing the same things over and over and over, just so I can get a good recording without any glaring mistakes, I come to understand why concert pianists always say they practice at least 8 hours day, usually more. It's very hard to play a lengthy piece with zero mistakes on demand while knowing you are watched (even if only by the camera), and the only way to cope is to practice practice practice.

These are a couple of pieces from the movie. I think they're pretty good. At least the fact that Hala doesn't run from the room when I play, and actually requests I play them often, lets me think that I play them nicely. There are a couple of mistakes in there in the second, but I'm tired of recording. Maybe I'll play it better sometime in the next few days, and replace this video. Until then, cheers :)

  1. Awesome. You've gotten much better. I don't know but I feel that you're setting a bit low since your arms seem to be bend upwards slightly.

  2. Thanks :)
Perhaps just a bit. A lot of it is just the angle of the camera. It looks that way because my forearm is pointing inward. Although, nope, just asked hala to look and tell me, and you're right, they're bent upwards a little. I'll raise the chair a little.

That' the thing, sometimes I'll fix the chair, then dad does, then I just keep playing and forget to. After a while I wonder why I don't seem to as much control on the key press, haha.
